Looking back to Fall 2007...
ANNUAL FALL HISTORIC TOUR:
"The Wainwrights and their Houses"
Sunday October 14, 2007
The Wainwright family played a major role in the transfomation of Rye from a rural community to a modern suburb. The Tour covered 100 years of history from 1848 when the first Wainwright ancestor to arrive in Rye purchased farmland on Kirby Lane until the 1950's when his great-granddaughter donated her parents' house to the Laymen's Movement to create Wainwright House.
This year's Tour visited Wainwright House, the Coveleigh Club, and several private houses in Rye, all of which were owned by the Wainwrights or designed by Richard Wainwright.
